What are the best exercises to lose belly fat?
This is a very good question!
Television commercials would like us to believe that doing abdominal specific exercises, using some ab device is the best way to lose belly fat and get six pack abs.
This is the furthest from the truth!
You don’t lose belly fat by doing crunches sit-ups.
Belly fat is lost when you lower your overall body fat percentage!
There is no such thing as spot fat reduction through exercise.
If you want to lose your belly fat you need a strategy and system for lowering your overall body fat percentage.
Most men will have a flat stomach and even see their abs when their body fat percentage is in the single digits (below 10%), women will have a flat stomach in the 16-22% range.
You lower your overall body fat percentage by following these 3 pillars, exercises to lose belly fat:
- Proper Nutrition – Eat the good foods, cut out the fat creating foods, and eat the correct # of calories daily for your body type
- Weight/Resistance training to build muscle which helps you burn fat
- Cardiovascular exercise to burn fat
These 3 pillars are what I personally used to lose 28 pounds of fat get my overall body fat percentage down into the single digits.
Now, I will state that my goal was aggressive. I wanted to lose fat and get six pack abs.
The best exercise to lose belly fat is going to be a total body workout.
Pullups, push ups, bodyweight squats, and cardio such as running. In order to burn the fat you have to get your body working hard enough, long enough, and frequently enough to create a calorie deficit so that your body uses your fat stores as energy, hence burning off the fat.
If all you want to do is lose a bit of your belly I would start with your nutrition. Nutrition is the most important. You want to feed your body well and cut out all the junk.
Sugar is probably your worst enemy when it comes to losing belly fat.
Jorge Cruise (weight loss expert) says to cut your sugar intake to a maximum of 15 grams per day if you want to lose your belly.
I agree with him completely. Read the labels on everything you eat. Sugar is in lunch meats, juices, bread, everything!

Remember, there aren’t really any specific exercises to lose belly fat such a situps and crunches. The best exercises for losing belly fat are the ones that help you burn the most calories and build the most muscle. Squats, pull ups, pushups, etc.
